Business Update 1/2/24
The first week of January 2014, TEN years ago, we purchased our small farm and moved to Berrien Center, Michigan (Berrien County) from Union, Michigan (Cass County) and I moved the business with me! What an adventure it has been! We are very thankful for everything!
Also in August of 2023 we celebrated as it has been TEN years since I restarted Furkis Architectural Consulting! Ten years prior to August 2023, I began practicing Architecture again as a Sole Practitioner. It is an interesting story of the business restart as I was still in Sioux City, Iowa primarily trying to get projects going back in Michigan and Indiana so I would have work when we moved back.
It has been a great ten years of working on a wide variety of residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural projects throughout Michigan, Indiana, and one in Iowa. We are very appreciative of all the clients who have given us steady work these ten years.
Of course there have been challenges, but as I look back over the business as a whole it is good! My family is very supportive and Erica helps with managing the business at times.
As a business owner it is hard to know what the future looks like. There has been shifts in project types and work load over the last year plus after the extremely busy years of 2020-2022. As a business owner I do have to make adjustments from time to time to keep up with the changes.
I have been working from home for over half of my career, starting way before remote work was popular. Being self-employed also allows me to teach college part time as an Adjunct Instructor for almost ten years at Southwestern Michigan College as an Adjunct Instructor in the Construction Program/ Advanced Technologies Programs, which gives some balance and I enjoy teaching.
Most of our business comes through word of mouth, referrals, and repeat clients and we are thankful to all of those that have helped make this business successful!
Let us know if we can be of assistance with your project in 2024 and beyond!
